It’s a big day for South Aussie music fans. Not only have The Superjesus revealed they have a new album and tour on the way, but fellow Croweaters The Audreys have shared that they are also dropping a new album and heading out on the road.

Following on from the release of ‘Secondhand Boots’, the band’s first single in a decade last November, The Audreys have released the new single, ‘Beatles V Stones’, which is taken from their upcoming fifth studio album, Ruin & Repair, due out March 14 (pre-save here).

The album is the first since the death of The Audreys’ founding member Tristan Goodall and has been something of a cathartic exercise for vocalist Tasasha Coates. “I was quite depressed when I wrote this,” shares Coates.

“I struggled a lot with depression after my best friend, songwriting partner and original Audrey, Tristan, died in 2022, but once I'd gotten through the initial grief, I found the process of writing and recording this album very healing. I still miss him and have sad days of course, but I know he would have loved this record and that makes me really proud and happy.”

‘Beatles V Stones’ features Coates working alongside guitarist Tom Kneebone, bassist Felicity Freedman and drummer Beej Barker. The country-tinged single is a nod to American great Jason Isbell and discusses the much-disputed question about who is the better group – The Beatles or the Rolling Stones?

The track was produced and engineered by Ryan Martin John at his Adelaide studio, Cactus Cactus Sound, with Alex Madder from MadderVMusic in charge of mastering.

The Audreys’ 23-date national tour is an absolute monster, with the band performing in seven out of eight Australian states and territories. Coates is pumped to be back on the road, saying, “I’ve overcome a lot of hurdles to get to this point and I’m really gosh darn happy to be here! We have a whole national tour coming up starting at the end of March and running right through until May. It will be lots of songs from the new album and lots of old Audreys favourites. Can’t wait!”

The tour kicks off on Thursday, March 27 at The River in Margaret River and hits a wide array of regional towns and cities, including Brisbane, Canberra, Belgrave, Hunter Valley, Launceston and Adelaide, with the final concert taking place at Nimbin Roots Festival on Sunday, October 26.

Tickets are on sale now via theaudreys.com.au.

One of the great SA acts, The Audreys were founded in 2004 by Coates and guitarist Tristan Goodall. The band have released four studio albums, with their debut Between Last Night and Us (2006) and follow-up releases When the Flood Comes (2008) and Sometimes the Stars (2011), all winning the ARIA Award for Best Blues & Roots Album.

Coates struck out on her own in 2016, releasing her debut solo record Taasha Coates and her Melancholy Sweethearts. Sadly tragedy struck before the band could reconnect, with Goodall passing away in 2022 after a long battle with illness.

After coming to terms with the loss of Goodall, Coates is ready to embark on a new chapter of The Audreys, with Ruin & Repair kicking off the band’s new era.

Catch The Audreys at The Gov on Saturday, June 7. Tickets on sale now via Oztix. Ruin & Repair is released on March 14. Pre-save your copy here.
