This is the first tasty release from Winston Surfshirt for 2025.
After several years of inactivity, Winston Surfshirt returned in November last year with groovy single, ‘BOOTS’. Now, just a few months later, the funk and hip hop inspired creation of vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Winston (real name Brett) are back again with another top tune, ‘Ice Cream’.
A soulful drizzle of finger-clicking melodies and invigorating instrumentation, ‘Ice Cream’ is a neat, sugary treat co-produced by emerging creative OSWRLD.
Speaking the track, Winston Surfshirt explains: “I was looking for a producer to work with and got put in a room with this guy called OSWRLD. We met at his studio in Coogee for the first time, shared a spliff and got straight into it.
“While I was setting up my stuff, he started putting a beat together… he was messing about with the drums and sample so I was looking for something in my head to sing. I looked up and there was a big wooden sign that said ICE CREAM, so I started singing ‘Let me lick on that ice cream’.. then we flipped the music to make an opposing verse that would take you to another place. I think we were honestly moved on to another song in about 30 minutes – Oscar’s production is elite.”

Initially a solo project for Winston’s musical ambitions, Winston Surfshirt has grown to include a close-knit community of musicians and friends that have produced three albums together – Sponge Cake (2017), Apple Crumble (2019) and Panna Cotta (2022).
Having garnered over 200 million streams, worked with the likes of Genesis Owusu, Young Franco and Dope Lemon and toured the globe, Winston Surfshirt have established themselves as favourites of the Aussie music scene over the past decade.
Fingers crossed the release of ‘BOOTS’ and ‘Ice Cream’ signals a new album is in the works.
