Barry Keoghan Stars in Music Video for Fontaines D.C.’s ‘Bug’
The track is taken from Fontaines D.C.’s latest long player, Romance.
Ahead of their 2025 Australian tour, Fontaines D.C. have shared the music video for their latest single, ‘Bug’.
Taken from the Irish Kings' most recent record Romance, the tune is a melodic shot of alt-rock accompanied by a music video directed by English filmmaker Andrea Arnold. The clip features footage taken from Arnold’s upcoming film Bird, which happens to star Barry Keoghan, Franz Rogowski, Nykiya Adams and Fontaines D.C.’s Carlos O’Connell.
Arnold says about the music video: “I’ve loved Fontaines since I first heard them. Some music just sits in your bones like it always belonged, like you know it already, like it’s part of you. It’s why I asked to use [Fontaines songs] ‘Too Real’ and ‘A Hero’s Death’ for my Bird film. Their music felt like it belonged there, in my world.
“They were immediately generous in letting me use those tracks which was just fucking brilliant. That generosity brought energy which gets poured into the life of the film. I am grateful for all the positive energy that comes when you make a film.
“Extending the images and my Bird world for the ‘Bug’ track felt like the most natural thing in the world, like part of the same thing. I wouldn’t have done it had I not felt that and I would hardly do it for anyone.”

O’Connell adds: “Andrea Arnold was kind enough to cut up a sequence to our tune ‘Bug’ featuring Barry Keoghan playing the character Bug in her new movie Bird. ‘Bug’ is a song that happened quickly and convinced everyone quicker. In my eyes, the character Bug, the tattoo ‘Bug’s Life’, Andrea’s essential and romantic worlds, and the line ‘Changed my name to promise you, yea’; when put all together make convincing needless & conviction undeniable. Big thanks to Andrea Arnold for letting us in so close to her visionary universe. She’ll be remembered how we remember Bacon or Goya.”
Bird is Academy Award-winner Arnold’s fifth feature-length movie, following 2016s road drama American Honey. The film arrives in Australian cinemas on Thursday, February 20 2025.
