Jack of all trades Tim Minchin has announced a massive Australian tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of Dark Side, the hit show that shot him to stardom.
The incomparable singer-songwriter, pianist, comedian, actor, musical-theatre composer-lyricist and all-round great guy has locked in 12 shows across the country as part of his Songs The World Will Never Hear tour.
“20 years ago, Dark Side took me from tiny cabaret rooms to the West End of London,” Minchin said in a statement about the tour. “In the years since then, I’ve pushed the boat out in as many directions as possible … and I’ve only been able to do so because of my fans. They’ve never flinched as I’ve turned corners and reinvented myself, always engaging open-heartedly with whatever I have to offer. I’m the luckiest artist on the planet and I can’t wait to be back touring my home country with a big joyous show, spanning my whole bloody mad career.”
Minchin’s Songs The World Will Never Hear tour kicks off with two concerts at Melbourne’s Palais Theatre on Friday, October 31 and Saturday, November 1. Minchin then travels to Brisbane’s Convention & Exhibition Centre on Friday, November 7 and Adelaide’s Entertainment Centre on Saturday, November 8, before performing three shows at Canberra’s Theatre on Thursday, November 13, Friday, November 14 and Saturday, November 15.
The final run of shows hit Perth’s HPC on Saturday, November 22, Newcastle’s Entertainment Centre on Thursday, November 27, Sydney’s ICC Theatre on Saturday, November 29, Gold Coast’s The Star on Saturday, December 6 and Toowoomba’s Empire Theatre on Sunday, December 7.

Not only is Tim Minchin hitting the road, but the talented artist has a new album on the way. TimMinchinTimeMachine arrives July 25 (pre-order/pre-save here) and contains 11 songs from Minchin’s long-hidden archives, including the album’s first single, ‘Ruby’.
The song is inspired by the story of a complex mother-daughter bond, with ‘Ruby’ accompanied by a music video directed by D.C. Fairhurst and produced by Lucy Green and Michael Lynch. The video features Minchin alongside two performers, Linda Gamblin and Tayla Gartner, telling the mother-daughter relationship through dance.
Speaking about the album, Minchin says: “Twenty years ago, when I fell into comedy, I put my hopes of a recording career on the shelf. After 2020’s Apart Together, I started thinking about properly producing some of the tunes I wrote in my prolific-but-obscure twenties. I was just going to leak these tunes without fanfare, but when BMG heard them, they convinced me that they deserved an album of their own. Young-me would be very stoked indeed to see this project live.”
