The Cure continues the rollout for their forthcoming album Songs of a Lost World with the release of second single, ‘A Fragile Thing’.
Unlike the eerily atmospheric ‘Alone’, this latest release is much more in line with The Cure’s earlier work, with Robert Smith crooning: “'‘There’s nothing you can do to change it back,’ she said / ‘Nothing you can do but sing’ / This love is a fragile thing / This love is my everything.”
Two more unheard songs, ‘And Nothing Is Forever’ and ‘I Can Never Say Goodbye,’ will be released as live versions in November, while Songs of a Lost World officially drops on November 1 (you pre-order here).
Smith and Paul Corkett produced the band’s first album in 16 years at Rockfield Studios in Wales. It contains eight tracks including the previously released ‘Alone’.

Although it’s only arriving this year, The Cure have been working on Song of a Lost World for several years. The band’s 14th studio album follows 2008’s 4:13 Dream, a record most fans and critics were impressed by.
Beginning in the late 70s, The Cure helped pioneer the post-punk movement with their sad goth rock throughout the 80s, with their 1989 album Disintegration blowing up thanks to the hit single, ‘Lullaby’.
The Cure have released 14 albums over the journey, won two BRIT Awards and spent much of 2023 touring North America and South America before returning to the UK to work on their new album.
