“The Nordic countries always create such memorable cinema and this year’s films are no exception. From thrilling Scandi noir to breathtaking ice-capped dramas these unmissable highlights are only a taste of what is to come,” Festival Curator Elysia Zeccola says about this year’s film festival.
Although the full film program is yet to be announced, several films have been revealed as part of this year’s lineup, including a special screening of the Icelandic film Touch (Snerting). This romantic drama is based on the book of the same name and follows the main character’s journey as he tries to find the love of his life 50 years after they last spoke.
The centrepiece of the festival is the Finish historical drama, Stormskerry Maja, based on the series of five books by Anni Blomqvist. The breathtaking flick details the life and times of Maja and her husband Janne, who must deal with the challenges of living on the Åland archipelago in the 19th century
Boundless (Den grænseløse) is a gripping Danish thriller that topped the box office and received critical acclaim. Based on the bestselling Department Q novels, the film follows Detective Mørck and his team as they investigate a cold case on the remote Danish island of Bornholm.
Norway chimes in with the emotional drama The Tundra Within Me (Eallougierdu). Sara Margrethe Oskal’s directorial debut revolves around artist Sámi, who returns to her hometown and must confront her past while falling in love.
Hammarskjöld – Fight for Peace (Hammarskjöld) is a political thriller set during the Cold War based on the true story of Swedish diplomat and economist Dag Hammarskjöld.
