Angie McMahon Shares New Single ‘Just Like North’
The stand-alone single comes as the singer-songwriter prepares to head off on tour overseas.
Having recently completed her nearly sold out ‘Making It Through’ tour of Australia, Angie McMahon has gifted fans a new single in the form ‘Just Like North.’
The song is an outtake from the recording sessions of her acclaimed 2023 album, Light, Dark, Light Again. Having first previewed the song live during her recent tour, McMahon has now released an official version of ‘Just Like North.’
“‘Just Like North’ is one of my favourites from the writing period of Light, Dark, Light Again, and it was recorded in Durham, NC with a bunch of the other songs on the record,” McMahon revealed in a statement.
“In the end it didn’t fit into the sequencing, and I always wanted to put it out somehow. It was written in a School of Song session led by Courtney Marie Andrews, who prompted us to respond in some way to a beautiful poem called ‘You Can’t Have It All’ by Barbara Ras. This one was also mixed by Alex O’Gorman. We’ve been playing it on tour lately because it holds the album theme of trusting in the course of failure and rebirth.”
Accompanying the single is a music video co-directed by Kyle Caulfield and Young Ha Kim. It features McMahon in various locations around Melbourne intercut with footage of her playing the song live during her performance at The Forum.

The release of ‘Just Like North’ comes after a huge 12 months for McMahon that saw the talented artist release her sophomore album, Light, Dark, Light Again, and embark on her hugely successful ‘Making It Through’ tour.
McMahon also took part in triple j’s Like a Version, receiving much love for her cover of Australian Crawl’s ‘Reckless’ which included an interpolation of Neil Young‘s ‘After The Gold Rush’.
McMahon is gearing up to take her ‘Making It Through’ tour overseas in August, with dates lined up in Canada, North America and Europe.
