IT’S HELL UP THERE IN HEAVEN TOO FUNDRAISER EVENT

Adelaide filmmaker and photographer Lucinda Corin is raising funds for her upcoming short film, It’s Hell Up There In Heaven Too– a queer period drama that explores gender roles and generational trauma. And what better way to do it than throwing a party that brings the local creative community together? Catch live acoustic sets in the courtyard of Stepney’s Ern Malley bar from the likes of Aleksiah, Effie and post-punk outfit Coldwave, or explore the pop-up market jam-packed with art, zines and stickers from a staggering range of Adelaide artists. Proceeds from the event support the making of the film

Expect: Your ticket purchase plus 10% of art sales on the night to go towards the creation of one of the most exciting film projects to launch in Adelaide this year.

COERCIVE CONTROL – JAMIE WILLIS

In this revealing exhibition of new works, visual artist Jamie Willis explores the depths of coercion. Based on manipulation by cults and the memories of an alien race, the gallery will be brought to life with Willis’ large-scale sculptures alongside video installations. Dark, sincere and imposing, this collection will stay with you once you’ve stepped outside the gallery doors.

Expect: To be a little unsettled.

IL ME SEMBLE QUE LA MISÈRE SERAIT MOINS PÉNIBLE AU SOLEIL

In a reflection of the French language title (‘It seems to me that misery would be less painful in the sun’), the Little Machine’s first 2024 exhibition explores the subtleties of light and shadow. The space will feature new paintings by Belgian artist duo Reniere&Depla, paired with work by South Australian artists with whom they share an affinity. For those who haven’t popped into the pint-sized experimental gallery before now, what better occasion than to make a team of international artists feel super welcome on their first visit to Australia?!

Expect: Dark, experimental works inspired by photographic source material, that will make you see the world a little differently. You can also catch an exclusive artist talk in the gallery on January 19 – stay tuned via @the_little_machine for more info!
