The Russell Hobbs British Film Festival 2024 returns to Palace Nova Cinemas next week. Running from Wednesday, November 6, to Sunday, December 8, the 2024 program is stacked with amazing films, including the Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield-starring drama We Live in Time and music doco Blur: Live At Wembley Stadium, along with a screening of the Ken Russell classic, The Music Lovers.
Opening night is headlined by filmmaker Steve McQueen’s visually stunning drama, Blitz. The flick follows 9-year-old George (Elliott Heffernan) as he attempts to make the journey from the English countryside back to London during World War II to reconnect with his mother Rita (Saoirse Ronan) and grandfather Gerald (Paul Weller).
Arrive early and enjoy a live performance from jazz act The Cool School while chowing down on yummy British delights, Thatcher’s apple cider and sparkling wine. Those in attendance will also receive an official festival gift bag. Not too shabby.
There’s also a special Sunday (November 10) screening of Conclave, a movie addressing all the chaos surrounding the process of choosing a new Pope, starring Ralph Fiennes in a career-defining performance, and the Australian premiere of Firebrand (Friday, November 22), featuring Jude Law as King Henry VIII during the final months of his reign. The festival closes on Sunday, December 8 with the Australian premiere of We Live in Time.
