Perfect Pair: El Toro Tequila Mango Margarita X ‘Is It True’ By Tame Impala

Tumblers and turntables at the ready...

Tasting Notes

El Toro Mango Margarita: It’s hard to rework the brain’s relationship with tequila after too many massive nights in our youth. But somehow, El Toro’s Mango Margarita has us forgetting all about those hazy, tummy-turning events. This South Australian label hand-harvests adult agave plants from the spirit’s hometown – Tequila, Mexico – double-distilling and blending it with lime, mango and soda water. The result? A smooth and subtle boozy beverage that doesn’t sting when you sip it. It’s clean and crisp, balanced and flavour-driven – a simple fruity mix that signals you’re strapping in for a good time, a good night. The tide is turning on tequila!

SLEEVE NOTES

‘Is It True’ by Tame Impala: Welcome to the sunny, synth-laden world of ‘Is It True’. It reportedly only took Kevin Parker – Tame Impala’s one-man music wizard – eight hours to make this track, a technically simple tune. Simple – but damn, it’s transcendent! The song is a masterful blend of bass and beats – a combo so powerful you soon forget its deeper meaning. ‘Is it true? Is it true? Tell me now?’ asks the song, begging for a fresh love to be confirmed. ‘We’ll see’ it replies. That response could dampen your night, but the groove-infused track has such a funky rhythm it reinvents the usually disastrous cat-and-mouse chase of infatuation. Spin the wheel again, it says, there are no bad times here, baby!

THEY’RE PERFECTLY PAIRED BECAUSE...

Tequila and lust might sound like a one-way ticket to a hazy night and a broken heart. But Tame Impala’s ‘Is It True’ and El Toro’s Mango Margarita work well together because they invite you to forget the bullshit in pursuit of bigger and brighter things. Fun, frivolity and an undeniable funk course through both – the holy trinity to a good night out (regardless of the consequences that may come in the morning). Ultimately, the duo asks you to rework your feelings towards tequila and situationships (both of which have been ruined since you were 19), pop your thoughts in cruise control and let loose for a night of unbridled boogying.
