Sum 41 Cancel Australian Tour
The Canadian punk act was meant to perform at this year’s Good Things Festival, along with several headline sideshows.

Sum 41 have been forced to cancel their Australian tour after frontman Deryck Whibley was diagnosed with pneumonia. The heartbreaking news comes after the band had to pull out of their performance at Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall gig last night.
The cancellation of Sum 41’s festival and headline shows comes after Smashing Pumpkins’ main man Billy Corgan also put an end to his Good Things sideshows, although he is still locked in to perform at Good Things this weekend.
The band took to Facebook to release a statement on the cancelled tour, which includes all three Good Things Festival dates along with proposed sideshows at Adelaide’s AEC Theatre (Tuesday, 10 December), Melbourne’s Margaret Court Arena (Thursday, 12 December) and Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion (Saturday, 14 December), that you can read below:
“It is with deep sadness and regret that we announce our 2024 Australian tour is unable to proceed. We were beyond excited to deliver this tour from December 4 - December 12, and connect with our Aussie fans once more. Now that we're here though, and under the guidance and direction of multiple Australian doctors, it's clear that Deryck is too unwell to perform.
“We understand and appreciate your disappointment - we're gutted too.
“The good news is Good Things Festival is still going ahead in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane this weekend with an incredible lineup of local and international acts. We can't be there, but get along for us and have the best time.
“Ticket buyers for our Tour of the setting Sum sideshow will be receiving refund information from the ticketing agencies shortly.”
Good Things organisers also took to social media to provide their own statement of everything that’s gone down over the past 24 hours.
“Good Things is set to hit Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney this weekend, with a slight tweak to the lineup. Under the guidance and direction of doctors in Australia, it has become clear Sum 41’s Deryck Whibley is too unwell to perform,” the statement reads.
“Sum 41 are gutted they can’t perform, and we fully understand and appreciate fans’ disappointment. Deryck’s health and wellbeing is the focus and priority though, and we hope you will join us in sending him well wishes for his recovery.
“The good news is our headliner Korn is ready and raring to go, the sites are built, venues look amazing and our timetable has been shuffled to ensure you have the best day possible. You’ll still be able to catch more than 28 Bands including Violent Femmes, Electric Callboy, Billy Corgan, Mastodon, Kerry King, The Gaslight Anthem, Jet, The Living End, L7 and many more across the weekend.

Good Things Festival 2024 kicks off this weekend with dates at Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne on Friday, December 6, Centennial Park in Sydney on Saturday, December 7 and Brisbane Showgrounds in Brisbane on Sunday, December 8.
