In the Green Room: King Jeff & The How Are Yous

King Jeff & The How Are Yous are bringing the party to Nice Day To Go To The Club with a high-octane set that packs a punch. Tom Redden and Jack Dollard from the seven-piece give us the lowdown on what to expect…

We’re excited to see you at Nice Day To Go To The Club this February. What should punters expect from your set?

Likely a lot of mistakes – with equal parts laughter! We tend to make an effort just to roll with it each gig and always invite a few friends on stage to help get us through. We are super keen to play the show, probably more so than any other gig yet.

The energy at your gigs is next-level. What are the songs in your arsenal that send the crowd into overdrive?

For some reason, ‘Baloney Town’ actually gets people into overdrive, which I find so funny. There have been multiple shows where I haven’t been able to sing the words due to laughing. It’s such a ridiculous song, but we love people getting around it. Out of our newbies from the album, ‘CBK’ has been very fun to play and gets our energy levels up on stage. Chris normally gets on the trumpet, which is so sick.

There are a couple of legends from the punk/garage scene heading to the festival. Who are you keen to share the stage with?

I’d say almost all of them. Children Collide would have to be up there. They were a big part of my 80Gb iPod Classic listening when I was really starting to get into music in Years 8 and 9. Also, there’s an up-and-coming band called Bend from the Mid Coast. They’re playing their first gig at the ages of 12 and 13, and I’ve heard some big things!

You released your debut album, Moon Landing, late last year. How do you feel having that out in the world? And what’s next for you musically?

Honestly, it feels cool to have a full body of work out for people’s ear holes. It may be surprising, but we actually put some effort into it, so I feel proud of the Jeffs getting it out in the world. As for what’s next, it’s the usual approach of just seeing what happens. We have a few new riffs that are tickling our fancy, though!

Catch King Jeff & The How Are Yous at Nice Day To Go To The Club alongside The Mark of Cain, Teenage Joans, Children Collide and more this February 24. Tickets on sale now.
